5 out of 5 stars Finally, no carafe   October 28, 2006

My bride and I have owned probably a half-dozen or so coffeemakers during out 15-year marriage. We both love coffee in the morning, and we like to have it piping hot and ready when we rise. We've had some very good coffeemakers and owned a variety of brands and models. But all but two had one major Achilles' heel - a glass carafe. However hard we might try, those glass carafes always got broken. And when they got broken, the unanimous refrain from stores and manufacturers was: "Sorry, we don't offer that version anymore." So, it was a new coffeemaker or nothing.

We also owned one of those fancy units with an insulated carafe. Well, at least for the unit we bought, that cuts two ways. Yes, the coffee inside is insulated from the frigid winds of our kitchen. It is also effectively insulated from a warmer (which the unit did not have or, obviously, need). Now I can tell you that, with the possible exception of the most secret research bowels of NASA, there is no insulated carafe in the universe that is as effective as a warmer unless one consumes one's coffee very quickly.

Not only does this unit make great coffee, there is no carafe to break!! Or wash!! Thank you, thank you, thank you Hamilton Beach. We love it.

One caveat: when the user's manual tells you to regularly descale the unit, do so. Else the machine will get sulky and simply refuse to brew your coffee. It's probably unionized, who knows, but it does effectively sit down on the job. Now the manual has been fine tuned by an attorney and recommends descaling monthly. Given the levels of dissolved mineral in our water, we descale once every six months and all is fine.

5 out of 5 stars Everything I expected   February 2, 2007

I am an optimist, so even after reading about problems with the brewstation, I was not disappointed with its performance. I rinsed all its parts and the very first brewing was excellent, and no need even to adjust our usual coffee-to-water ratio using Community New Orleans blend coffee. I haven't used the automatic feature yet because our rising time varies, but brewing 8 cups takes only a few minutes, just long enough to get the milk heated for cafe au lait. Cleanup is easy, and I run hot water through the drain in the coffee tank to prevent any buildup and clogging. That may prevent the leakage that some people are experiencing. I order from Amazon extensively and have never failed to get what I've ordered. After MANY other coffee makers (perk, Cory, Krupps, etc.) I am exceedingly pleased with the brewstation.

5 out of 5 stars Best Deal For A BrewStation   March 7, 2007

The model I have (47665) so far is performing well.
No leaks. The clock/timer works.
The water gets lip-burning hot.
I ran water through it twice before making our first brew and it tasted plasticky. We'll have to run it a few more times until it's "seasoned".

***( I ran water through it twice. The third time I added a Tbsp. of vinegar. Ran water through it again. The last time I brewed 3 bags of tea. That took care of the plasticky flavor. We had one of the best cups of coffee after that.)

Almost bought the $99.00 Zojirushi and $100 Cuisinart at the mall. Got a great deal on the Hamilton Beach locally. Just a few dollars less than Amazon. Though Amazon still has one of the best deals with free shipping and all. I think that this model is the best deal for a brewstation.
Dispensing our coffee is the best part. We hope it lasts.

UPDATE: May 2009

We still have it and it works great!

5 out of 5 stars Best Idea Ever!   December 16, 2007

I received one of these several years ago as a gift and when it finally died I rushed to get another just like it! I will NEVER use a glass pot coffee maker again. When my son deployed to Iraq, I sent him one of these. He and all his guys LOVED it! Again, no glass pot to mess with or break! When the machine itself got damaged I hurriedly ordered them another one. This is a newer model than the first one (also newer than either of mine) but works just the same. I see that some people said they received something different than what is pictured here, but the one I just got for my son is this exact coffee maker. - And, of course, my son says it works GREAT!!
I would (and do) highly recommend this coffee maker to everyone. If I had to think of any negative points it could only be that very tall to-go cups won't fit. But that is rarely a problem.
The coffee is hot, it never gets "burned", and it's very easy to just hold your cup up to the dispenser and fill it. No spills or drips, and great tasting coffee every time.

5 out of 5 stars Makes Great Coffee.. I will tell you why it leaks   September 16, 2007

The reason people are having leakage issues, you are probably putting them in the dishwasher with the heat cycle. The heat on the dishwasher will seperate the seams. If you want to clean the holding tank, soak it with powdered oxyclean overnight. BTW... when mine leaked (from the dishwasher) I called Hamilton Beach and they sent me a replacement tank free of charge within 3 days
